The Reds cruised past West Ham to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Liverpool defeated West Ham 5-1 in their EFL Cup match on Wednesday. A dominant attacking display from the Reds ensured their crushing victory at Anfield.
What happened?
Liverpool got control of the game quickly, but West Ham kept them at bay for about half an hour. The Reds’ pressure finally paid off when Dominik Szoboszlai made it 1-0 for the hosts with a spectacular shot from outside the box.
West Ham made a few efforts to get back into the game after the break. But Liverpool doubled their lead only 11 minutes into the second period. Curtis Jones scored his side’s second goal of the night from a tight angle after receiving a precise through pass from Darwin Nunez.
Jurgen Klopp then made four changes to his lineup until the 70th minute, but that only motivated the Reds to push for more goals. Cody Gakpo’s goal was quickly followed by Jarred Bowen pulling one back for the visitors.
However, when Mohamed Salah made it 4-1 for Liverpool after a quick counter-attack in the 82nd minute, West Ham’s defensive structure collapsed. Only two minutes later, Jones completed his brace to put the icing on the cake for the Reds as they reached the EFL Cup semi-finals.
