Liverpool came back from behind to beat Newcastle as Mohamed Salah strikes again for the Reds.
Liverpool defeated Newcastle 3-1 in their Premier League game on Thursday. The Reds keep the pressure on the top of the table as they win their seventh consecutive game.
Liverpool come back from behind!
Liverpool conceded a surprising early goal as the guests dominated the first few minutes of the game. Following a half clearance from Thiago Alcantara, Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring with a spectacular strike.
Liverpool immediately started their efforts to score the equalizer, and it did not take them too long. Diogo Jota made it 1-1 for the hosts with a header in the 21st minute. Newcastle’s defence looked shattered after conceding the equalizer and this provided Mohamed Salah with a chance to put Liverpool ahead.
Following a misplaced pass from Shelvey, Sadio Mane fired a shot from the edge of the box. Martin Dubravka saved Mane’s strike, but Salah was there to convert the rebound only four minutes after Jota’s goal.
Liverpool continued their domination in the second half while the Magpies failed to make enough opportunities. The Reds were not able to get their third goal until three minutes before the final whistle. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stunner defiantly worth the wait.
Liverpool kept on attacking until the final minute but could not extend their lead further.
The victory extends the gap between Liverpool and Chelsea to three points as the Blues dropped points earlier tonight. The Reds will now look to leapfrog Man City, who seem unstoppable these days.
Next up for Liverpool is a game against Tottenham on Sunday. However, the game is in doubt due to several Covid cases in both sides.
On the other hand, Newcastle continue their poor form as they stay with 10 points in 19th place. The Magpies will face Man City in their next league match on Sunday.
