Let’s take a look at the player ratings of the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and West Brom at Anfield.
Liverpool entered Anfield for their last fixture of the year against West Brom with the hope to grab the three points. Jurgen Klopp’s men were unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League games right after the heavy defeat by the hands of Aston Villa. And a win on home soil would have sent them five points clear to the top of the league.
The visitors, on the other hand, struggled on the boundary of relegation but looked quite hazardous on paper. But, as expected, the Reds took the lead in the first half. Just 13 minutes in the match, Joel Matip and striker Sadio Mane combined to create a beautiful goal for Liverpool. The Senegal international scored his sixth goal of the 2020-21 season with a brilliant finish past Sam Johnstone.
A late equaliser upsets the home team.
Liverpool showed complete dominance for the entirety of the second half with possession of 78 percent. However, a late corner-kick delighted the Baggies’ fans as defender Semi Ajayi came to the rescue. Substitute Matheus Pereira curled in a long ball with his left foot which was tucked in by the Nigerian.
Now, a draw with West Brom leaves Liverpool three points clear as leaders in the English top-flight. The visiting team though stays 19th even after stealing the win from the Merseyside club.
