Man City struggled to establish their dominance over possession despite making a few early chances.
Liverpool tried to surprise their guests with counter-attacks a few times but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Meanwhile, City increased their number of attacks from both flanks, getting close to scoring the opener through Erling Haaland just before half-time.
The situation changed, however, as soon as the second period started. Liverpool looked much more dangerous in attack, continuing to use the space behind City’s backline.
Following a host of missed chances, Mohamed Salah finally broke the deadlock for the Reds in the 76th minute.
Alisson provided the assist for Salah’s fantastic run behind Joao Cancelo. The Egypt star then converted the one-on-one situation with a cool low shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.
City found a few more half-chances to get back into the game, but they eventually had to settle for the narrow defeat.
The result increases the gap between City and Arsenal to seven points at the top of the league table while Liverpool climb to the eighth spot.
