The PSG superstar will miss his side’s next game with a minor injury.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed Lionel Messi will not play in his side’s upcoming game against Lorient.

Messi has suffered an inflammation in his Achilles tendon, but his World Cup chances are not in danger.

“Messi has inflammation in his tendon,” Galtier said at Saturday’s pre-match news conference.

“I think he will be available for our next game, just like Presnel Kimpembe, who is still in rehabilitation.

“He should be back for the Auxerre game.”

With World Cup being just over a week away, PSG’s initial injury update generated concerns over the Argentine icon’s fitness.

However, it seems PSG are ready to take the needed precautionary measure to avoid worsening his injury.

Messi will most likely return to PSG’s training next week and probably get game time against Auxerre. However, it’s unlikely that Galtier would start him against the fourth-placed side.

“We have played a lot, it is a very intense season, and that is the case for everyone, and we must not hide from that, of course, it generates fatigue,” Galtier added.

“Usually, our last Champions League group game is in mid-December. Having so many weeks with Champions League games has taken up a lot of energy.”
