The Argentine icon is yet to decide on his international retirement.

Lionel Messi will decide whether to participate in the 2026 World Cup after Argentina’s Copa America campaign next summer.

Messi won the Copa America and CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup (Finalissima) with Argentina before leading Albiceleste to their third World Cup title last year.

Many observers expected the former Barcelona star to end his international career after the tournament. But he soon announced his decision to continue playing for Argentina during their qualifying campaigns for Copa America and the next World Cup.

Asked by OLGA about his future with Albiceleste, Messi said on Thursday: “I want to arrive to the next Copa America in good condition then I will see depending on how I am.

“I’m not thinking about the next World Cup yet. The years have passed and we have to see how I feel, I will see it day by day.”

Messi has enjoyed fantastic form in his recent displays for Argentina, scoring six goals in four appearances since the World Cup final.

Argentina will return to action to continue their World Cup qualifying campaign in October. The Albiceleste will take on Paraguay and Peru, with Messi being expected to join the team despite Inter Miami’s fight to reach the MLS playoffs.
