The Argentine icon is not sure whether he will continue playing for the Albiceleste after the upcoming tournament.

Argentina defeated Venezuela 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday. Lionel Messi scored Albiceleste’s third goal as they continued their three-game winning streak in the qualifying tournament.

Having already secured a spot in the World Cup, Messi and co are preparing to feature in their first tournament since winning the Copa America last year. The continental trophy came 28 years after Argentina’s last major title.

Argentina’s brilliant form in the last two years has also revived their hopes of winning the nation’s first World Cup trophy since 1984. However, this might be their last chance to celebrate that achievement with Messi.

“I don’t know what I will do after the World Cup,” Messi said after the Venezuela victory.

“I am thinking about what is coming. After Qatar I will have to reassess many things.”

He added: “I don’t know [about playing on], the truth is I don’t know. I think about what’s coming next, only think about facing Ecuador [on Tuesday]. The preparation matches in June and September.

“Let’s hope these go the best way possible. But for sure after the World Cup many things will change.”

After the international break, Messi will return to Ligue 1 action when PSG meet Lorient on April 3. Let’s see if the Parisians can bounce back from their shock 3-0 defeat against Monaco just before the current break.
