The Argentine icon will become a free agent when his PSG contract expires next summer.

Lionel Messi is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Inter Miami to join the MLS side next summer.

Messi’s current deal at Paris Saint-Germain will expire in the summer of 2023. The French side have remained silent on the Argentine’s future, leading to widespread speculations about his future.

The Spanish sources have reported on Barcelona’s interest in returning Messi to Camp Nou as a free agent. However, the 35-year-old seems to be MLS-bound.

According to the Times, Inter Miami are close to agreeing a deal with Messi.

The MLS side are confident they will finalise Messi’s summer move to the club after the World Cup. The David Beckham-owned club are planning to make the Argentinian star the highest-paid player in the history of MLS.

Inter Miami are also keen to sign two of Messi’s long-term friends, Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas, next summer. Both players have worked with Messi at Barcelona and could play a key role in his possible move to the MLS side.

On Saturday, MLS commissioner Don Garber confirmed there is concrete interest in bringing the PSG star to the league.

“There has been an interest in Messi,” he said. “We believe a lot. However, in the formality of the rules so at the moment he is under contract and then he will decide what to do.

“It would be fantastic to have someone like him in our championship, someone of his stature who can offer a global platform to talk about MLS, even beyond the borders of our countries.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more voices about Messi in particular.”
