Darren Fletcher believes Jesse Lingard is looking for a way out of United after appointing Mino Raiola as his agent.
Lingard continues to be strongly linked with an exit away from Manchester United this summer.
The 27-year-old has run into the final year of his contract. The Red Devils could be forced to cash in on him now rather than lose him for free next summer.
Lingard has grown out of favour at Old Trafford but has attracted interest from the likes of West Ham, Everton and Tottenham in particular.
The arrival of Bruno Fernandes saw the midfielder get limited game-time. If that is to go by, the recent addition of Van de Beek means the 27-year-old could become a fringe member under Solskjaer.
Back in January, Lingard hired super-agent Mino Raiola and Darren Fletcher believes it is a hint the player wants out of United.
Fletcher commented on the player’s future after United’s 3-0 win over Luton Town on Tuesday.
He told Sky Sports : “It’s unknown. The alarm bells started ringing for me when he appointed Mino Raiola as his agent. Now you don’t appoint Mino Raiola as your agent if you’re looking at staying at a club.
“That suggests to me that he’s looking for a move. He’s not a starter in Manchester United’s strongest team, he’s a squad player now. Yes, he’s come through the club and he’s been there a long time.
“Maybe, he feels like he is ready for a new challenge and maybe he feels he is at an age now where he needs to be a starter, he can’t be a squad player.
“It will be interesting to see what happens between now and the end of the window.”
Lingard was left out of United’s squad that lost to Crystal Palace but played 90 minutes against Luton Town. His future at the club is still rather unknown but looks to be hanging by a thread at the moment.
