Lille star Loic Remy has sent a message to Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe amid the player’s apparent struggles in the Premier League.

Loic Remy has urged Pepe to maintain his focus at the Emirates or risk being frozen out under Mikel Arteta.

Remy played alongside the Ivorian international for a single season at Lille.

An impressive tally of 22 goals in 38 league games was enough to convince Arsenal to pay a record £72m fee for Pepe.

The 25-year-old is yet to hit expected heights with only seven goals from 42 appearances for the Gunners.

Inconsistency has clouded Pepe at the club and some quarters feel Arsenal might have ‘wasted’ cash on the forward.

Remy still believes in the qualities of his former teammate and has urged the Gunners man to keep his head down and stay focused.

“He (Pepe) was flying in Lille and he was the best player in the team,” Remy told Goal. “Then, when you get to the next step, the expectation is really high. You cannot have one day of being lazy or late. The intensity in big clubs is like that.

“You can’t complain and there’s not much time to adapt. You can’t get away with mistakes anymore like you can at smaller clubs. There are always players waiting on the bench to take your spot.

“They will be training their hardest to replace you and that’s the biggest difference between big clubs and a smaller club.

“For him, the whole team are having a difficult season. Arsenal is Arsenal, so I think they will get back to having good results even if there are no easy games in the Premier League.”
