The Red Devils were keen on bolstering their defensive ranks last summer with the aim of bringing in an ideal partner for Harry Maguire.

AS Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile has confirmed he received an offer from Manchester United last summer.

Manchester United were said to be in the market last summer for a pacey defender, amid suggestions that Victor Lindelof was not an ideal partner for captain Harry Maguire.

Badiashile had impressed in 2019-20 with and was heavily linked with a move away from Monaco, and the Premier League was being touted as his next destination.

The Red Devils, as it was reported at the time, were willing to splash up to £22 million (€25m) to land the talented Frenchman.

The transfer never went through, not for the lack of trying from United though as the 19-year-old has now revealed he wanted to continue his development at Stade Louis II.

“It was the right choice, first off is that I have not enjoyed good seasons since I have been at Monaco,” Badiashile told RMC Sport.

“We played to stay up and so now I am really experiencing being at the top of the table and I think that continuing with the club that trained me was the right decision and this is being proved by the season that we are having.”

“No, not at all,” Badiashile firmly responded when asked if regrets rejecting a move to Old Trafford.
