The Bavarians were characteristically ruthless against Friday’s opponents as they ended their final game of this year with an emphatic win.

Bayern Munich went nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table following a 4-0 thrashing of Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Muller, on his 400th Bundesliga appearance, opened the scoring for the hosts just seven minutes after kick-off, tappng in from close range after Koen Casteels had spilled the ball in an attempt to save Serge Gnabry’s long-range effort.

Moments before the hour-mark, the defending German champions doubled their advantage through defender Dayot Upamecano, who nodded the ball home after meeting Muller’s cross.

Bayern added another just two minutes later, with Leroy Sane cutting inside and curling the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Robert Lewandowski finally, as how could he not, got on the scoresheet. The Polish marksman’s 43rd league strike of 2021 saw him reach one milestone and get past another one: matching Cristiano Ronaldo‘s remarkable tally of 69 total in a year and breaking Gerd Muller’s record of most goals in a calendar year.
