In an interview with France Football, Robert Lewandowski revealed the reason he didn’t sign for Manchester United when he had the chance.

Robert Lewandowski has been pursued by clubs like Manchester United throughout his entire career. There have been instances in which even bigger clubs have attempted to sign him but none of them were successful. Now that he is an established household name in world football, he can talk about those moments without hesitation.

There was a time in which Sir Alex Ferguson attempted to sign him for Manchester United when he was still a Borussia Dortmund player. The year was 2011, which was one of the best years we can recall from him wearing the Black and Yellow uniform. Lewandowski was only getting started to make a name for himself in Europe’s elite.

Sir Alex tried to sign him really hard.

This was back when saying no to Manchester United was a statement. Sir Alex Ferguson was still reigning supreme as one of the most prestigious managers in the world and he could get any player he wanted. During that era, he was still looking for an ideal Cristiano Ronaldo replacement and he had some players in mind. In the end, the Red Devils weren’t able to get the player and decided to sign Robin van Persie instead.

“After my second year in Dortmund, I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson,” said Lewandowski on France Football. “He wanted me to come to Manchester. There I was very interested. I can even say I was ready. “But Dortmund didn’t want to let me go. It didn’t bother me more than that because things were going well with Borussia.”
