Ahead of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2020 on Thursday, fans are more than convinced Robert Lewandowski has ‘won’ the prize already.
Reactions across social media all point to the fact that no one else but Lewandowski deserves to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2020 award.
The Polish forward is the clear favorite to win the award after an astonishing year of individual and team honors.
Lewandowski bagged a remarkable 55 goals across all competitions last term and was also the top scorer in every competition he partook in. On to team honors, he completed the treble with Bayern Munich while also winning the UEFA Super Cup and the German Super Cup.
The Ballon d’Or award was canceled this year and the Bayern forward himself admitted he was left displeased with that decision.
However, the Best FIFA Awards ceremony will be held later on Thursday virtually and no one will be in attendance,
As per part of the criteria for the award, 25% of votes would be determined by fans while the other 75% would come from coaches of FIFA Member Associations, their team captains, and a select group of football journalists from those countries.
Going by what fans are saying on social media, Lewandowski might be getting the full backing from fans to topple a certain ‘GOAT’ duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
UEFA sent out a poll on their Twitter account and asked fans to debate on who should win the award. More than half of the votes were in favor of the Bayern forward.
Out of 46,000 votes so far (as at the time of writing), Lewandowski leads the way with 59% of the votes.
