Robert Lewandowski insists his numbers and exploits over recent years are right there on par with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Robert Lewandowski has reiterated he was a deserved winner of The Best FIFA Men’s Player award this year.
The Polish forward came up against the evergreen duo of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and deservedly beat them to the prize.
Prior to the award, Lewandowski had publicly mentioned he was in the form of his life this year and deserves whatever plaudits he was getting.
It comes after the Bayern talisman expressed his sadness at seeing the Ballon d’Or award canceled for this year. Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the coveted prize over the years and the experienced forward had a big shout to win it this year.
Lewandowski won the Bundesliga and Champions League with Bayern Munich and his 55 goals across all competitions proved to be pivotal in his side’s success last term.
The 32-year-old brushed off talk of comparisons with Ronaldo and Messi but insists his numbers are up there with the ever-present duo.
“Messi and Ronaldo have been sitting at the same table, at the top, for a very long time, and that’s what makes them incomparable” Lewandowski told France Football.
“So to answer your question, I can’t imagine myself next to them in this point of view.”
“That said, if you take the numbers for this year and even previous ones, I think I’m pretty good in terms of performance and goals scored.”
“Failing to be at the same table as Messi and Ronaldo, I think I can invite them to eat at mine!”
