Bay Arena is the place in which Bayer Leverkusen got a visit from Borussia Dortmund in a fresh Bundesliga match. We got the player ratings.
Tonight, we saw an authentic battle near the top of the Bundesliga between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. German football is taking a whole new level of performance this season with at least five clubs playing at a high level. Despite having some of the most exciting talents in world football, the Dortmund side still struggled at Bay Arena tonight.
This Bayer Leverkusen side has what it takes to fight for the title this season, as they proved tonight. It all started with an opening goal from Moussa Diaby in a counter-attack from the locals that took Dortmund by surprise. We couldn’t see the best of Erling Haaland this evening as he got double marking from the Leverkusen defenders. The rest of the good action came until the second half.
Leverkusen takes the win in the end.
After the break, Borussia Dortmund appeared to respond through Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt. The English forward was one of the few good aspects of his side’s attack this evening, but it still wasn’t enough. Brandt did score a beauty of a goal from a long distance but the locals were too strong on the counter-attack.
With ten minutes left on the clock, Wirtz scored the winning goal after an assist from Diaby in another deadly counter-attack. This result leaves the locals in second place of the tournament, only four points behind Bayern Munich at the top. The German Bundesliga hasn’t’ been this exciting in decades.
