Levante faced Atletico Madrid at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia this Wednesday evening for La Liga. We have the player ratings.
Atletico Madrid failed to increase their lead in La Liga against current champions Real Madrid. The Colchoneros could’ve sat at the top of the table with eight points over their rivals with a game in hand. However, Simeone’s side struggled against a well-performing Levante and only managed to take one point home.
Levante started out the match on top and didn’t take long to put themselves in the lead. The Granotas took advantage of some confusing in Atleti’s defense starring Gimenez. Jorge de Frutos passed the ball onto Bardhi who didn’t seem intimidated by Oblak and delivered a classy finish.
However, Levante’s goal served as a wake-up call for Simeone’s men. Led by a very inspired Marcos Llorente, the Colchoneros largely improved their performance before the end of the first half. In fact, Atletico were rewarded with a somewhat lucky goal before the break. Llorente’s powerful shot was deflected by Rober Pier, who ended up fooling his goalkeeper.
The last 45 minutes featured a few good chances for both teams, but it was Atletico who came closer to a win. However, Aitor Fernandez managed to stop any ball that dared to close in on his goal. In fact, both goalkeepers were the main reason why the ball didn’t hit the net several times.
Atletico Madrid now have a six-point lead over Real and are the current La Liga leaders. On the other hand, Levante has held on to 11th place and is now seven points above the relegation zone.
