On the day he won his seventh Pichichi trophy, Leo Messi opened up about the homage he made to Diego Maradona after his tragic passing.

Diego Maradona’s passing is still inside people’s memories as it is with Leo Messi. The Argentine star dedicated one of his goals and made a beautiful homage by showing the Newell’s Old Boys jersey after scoring. But more importantly, he scored another goal that resembles the only one Diego scored with the Argentine club.

Throughout his career, Messi never intended to copy Maradona but things simply happened that way. Today, it’s the first time he gets to speak about this homage in public after receiving his seventh Pichichi trophy as La Liga’s top scorer. Leo got this recognition from Marca after ending last season with the highest number of scored goals.

Messi was honored with the homage to Maradona.

During the presentation of his Pichichi trophy on Marca, Leo Messi also received a plaque where his homage is represented in Marca’s cover. He acknowledged the moment and remembered Diego for everything he did in football.

“It was a very special day. I was fortunate enough to dedicate this little homage to him that I prepared. Scoring the goal was possible and I could show his jersey like that. It’s a beautiful memory on a very special day for everything Diego meant as he is no longer with us.”

Messi also revealed he can’t wait for fans to return to the stadium after this pandemic gets dealt with by the end of 2021. He knows how difficult life has been for everybody and he can’t wait to get back to normal.
