Leicester City’s Champions League qualification ambitions are under threat as Caglar Soyuncu could be out for three months due to injury.

Caglar Soyuncu returned to Leicester City from international duty in damaged condition, having sustained a serious groin injury while with the Turkish national team.

The center-back was forced to miss the game against Aston Villa on Saturday and his absence was felt as the team succumbed to a 1-0 loss.

It appears that the Foxes will have to learn to make do without someone who is a rock at the center of their defense for possibly three months – irrespective of how unsettling that sounds.

The 24-year old had a scan over the weekend to reveal the extent of his injury, and the results are not exactly cheerful.

“Soyuncu is more serious in terms of the muscle is right off the bone, so he could be up to three months, which is an absolute shame for him,” the club’s official website quotes manager Brendan Rodgers.

“He did it the day before training with the Turkish national team. So, he’ll be a big miss, and he adds to the other boys that are out.”

Soyuncu’s long-term injury only makes life worse for Rodgers who also does not have Jamie Vardy, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ricardo Pereira for selection due to fitness issues.

Ndidi (groin injury) is expected to remain out of action for three months while Pereira (calf injury) could probably miss another month. Vardy’s recovery, however, is a matter of days rather than months.
