The Foxes beat the Europa League champions last night but the victory was marred by an injury to one of their most important players.

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has confirmed he suffered a fractured fibula during the pre-season friendly against Villarreal.

Fofana was on the receiving end of a horrible late tackle by Villarreal forward Nino in the second half of Wednesday’s fixture at the King Power Stadium.

Physios and paramedics rushed onto the pitch for the treatment of the 20-year-old center-back, who was given oxygen before being ultimately stretchered off.

Fofana wrote in an Instagram post: “Hello guys, many thanks for all your messages. It is a bad day today but I am in a tremendous club with a wonderful medical team.

“I will give you news as soon as I have a final diagnosis but we already know that I have a fibula fracture. I will come soon and stronger: do not worry.”

Brendan Rodgers will now be sweating over the fitness of Tavares as he was a standout performer for Leicester in 2020-21, helping the club to a fifth-placed Premier League finish and their first-ever FA Cup success.

The Foxes begin their new campaign on Saturday by playing Premier League title holders Manchester City in the Community Shield final.
