Leicester City defeated Liverpool 1-0 in their Premier League game on Tuesday. The Foxes clinched a surprise win as Liverpool failed to score at the King Power Stadium.
Salah misses a penalty!
The two sides played after their spectacular Carabao Cup battle on Wednesday. However, both sides were much more careful with their attacks tonight. Liverpool put Leicester City under pressure for the first 15 minutes as they forced them into their own half.
Their efforts came close to succeeding when Wilfred Ndidi took Mohamed Salah down inside Leicester’s box in the 14th minute. Salah missed his penalty and then tried to score with a header, but Kasper Schmeichel managed to clear the ball.
Following the missed penalty, Leicester pushed to get the opener as they gained more possession. After a goalless first half, the Foxes finally broke the deadlock through Ademola Lookman just before the hour-mark. Only three minutes after coming off the bench, the Leicester striker scored the only goal of the night.
Liverpool increased the pressure on Leicester’s defence in the final thirty minutes. They came close to scoring several times, but they were not able to get past the Foxes’ backline.
Liverpool’s gap with Manchester City on top of the table increases to six points. The Reds will now have to prepare for a tough January without two of their key players. Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Naby Keita will travel to Cameroon for AFCON, leaving Jurgen Klopp with more problems. Liverpool will face Chelsea in a crunch league battle on Sunday.
On the other hand, Leicester climbed up to ninth place as Brendan Rodgers defeated his former team. Next up for the Foxes is a game against Norwich City.
