The Peacocks are struggling to keep their key players after suffering relegation.

Leeds United have confirmed Wilfried Gnonto refused to play for the club against Birmingham.

Gnonto has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road since Leeds’ relegation last season. Everton emerged as the Italy international’s main suitor and reportedly reached a personal agreement with him.

However, Leeds have told Gnonto that they will not sell him this summer. On Friday, the Championship side issued a statement on their website over the “internal disciplinary matter”.

“Earlier this week, Willy Gnonto and his representatives were informed by the club that he would not be sold this summer,” Leeds’ statement reads.

“Following those conversations, Willy felt he was unable to play in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town. Despite training for the last two days, Willy has informed Daniel Farke that he still does not feel able to play this weekend and has not travelled to Birmingham for the game tomorrow.

“This is now an internal disciplinary matter and the club will make no further comment, other than to reiterate that Willy Gnonto is not for sale.”

Everton reportedly made a £15m bid for Gnonto earlier this month. However, they haven’t come back with a fresh offer after Leeds’ rejection of their initial approach.
