The Brazilian star is among Barca’s main transfer targets for the next summer.

Since joining Leeds United from Rennes in October 2020, Raphinha has developed into one of the best wingers of the English top flight. The Brazilian star has attracted interest from several top clubs, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich being his main suitors.

The Catalan side have appeared to lead the race for Raphinha. However, recent reports from English media suggest that Leeds are doing everything in their power to keep the Brazilian at Elland Road.

In a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s upcoming game against Southampton, Jesse Marsch reacted to reports around Barca’s interest in Raphinha.

“He is a massive talent and my challenge, despite all of the talk outside, is to have the relationship where we can focus on his development in helping the team while he is here,” the Leeds boss said.

“I haven’t had a word with him about Deco or Barcelona. It [Barça’s interest] should be out there because he is fantastic.

“I just want him to become the player I know he can be. Everyone here wants to enjoy the football he can play. Of course we want him to stay as long as possible. He’s a fantastic player and very good person.”

Leeds United have shown significant signs of improvement since appointing Marsch as their new manager. They have distanced themselves seven points from the relegation zone by winning their last two games.

Last week, Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta revealed interested clubs could only activate Raphinha’s release clause if the Peacocks suffer relegation this season.
