The Portugal teammates spoke of the Saudi Pro League when Leao was in the country for AC Milan’s Supercoppa Italiana game with Inter Milan in January.

Rafael Leao recently spoke about a conversation he had with Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo during a visit to Saudi Arabia.

In a Q&A YouTube session, a fan asked Leao for his thoughts on the Saudi Pro League. The AC Milan attacker disclosed he always had high expectations for the league, especially after a chat with Ronaldo. In the discussion, CR7 predicted great players would soon come to the Middle East and make the league strong.

Indeed, Ronaldo’s prediction appears to be spot on. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia took over four of the country’s leading football clubs this summer. The takeover increased each team’s transfer funds, paving the way for some mega deals.

Saudi Pro League clubs have completed 81 signings this summer to date. They’ve spent a combined €143.6 million on transfer fees. Al-Hilal’s signing of Ruben Neves from Wolves for a €55 million fee is the most expensive fee paid to date.

The most high-profile recruit in the league is arguably Karim Benzema, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner. The former Real Madrid captain joined Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad on a free transfer last month. He signed a two-year contract at the club, worth an alleged €400 million.
