Lazio faced Bayern Munich at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this Tuesday night at the Champions League’s Round of 16. We have the player ratings.

Bayern Munich showed it won’t be easy to beat the defending champions after they thrashed Lazio with a 4-1 away win in Rome. The Italian side will now have to score at least four goals in order to knock-out the Bavarians.

The game didn’t start well for Lazio as Mateo Musacchio handed Lewandowski his 72nd goal in the Champions League. In addition to a much-needed lead, Lewandowski also became the UCL’s third top scorer behind Ronaldo and Messi. Musacchio, on the other hand, was substituted around the 30th-minute mark after a poor performance.

Less than 15 minutes later, another historic achievement occurred at the Stadio Olimpico. 17-year-old Musiala became Bayern’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League with an ice-cool finish. Moreover, Goretzka’s assist further proved that the Bavarians’ levels increase when the midfielder is on the pitch.

Despite their attempts to reach Neuer’s goal, Lazio’s defensive performance was well below the level required to play in the UCL. After another terrible mistake, Coman ran down the left-wing and Sane took advantage of Lazio’s apathy.

A well-disputed second half between the two sides.

Although Lazio were looking to make a comeback after the break, the German champions easily put a stop to their hopes. Just one minute into the second half, a quick counter-attack left the Italians in shambles once again. Leroy Sane showed his tremendous quality as he dribbled past a defender and crossed the ball into the box. In an unfortunate event, Acerbi ended up scoring an own-goal as he tried to prevent Davies from scoring.

Nevertheless, Lazio managed to put one past Neuer and light up a tiny flame for the second leg in Munich. Joaquin Correa managed to dribble his way past a few of Bayern’s defenders and made it look like it’s easy to score in front of Neuer.

Bayern Munich’s tremendous win comes only a few days after a disappointing loss against Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Regardless, this victory may be exactly what Flick’s men needed to turn things around in the German league.
