After struggles for game-time at the club, Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set to join Bayer Leverkusen this January.
According to the latest reports, Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £1.5m.
The 23-year-old has already been told he can leave after struggling to build a case for regular game-time under.
Ajax have also interested in Fosu-Mensah but reports indicate a move to Bayer Leverkusen is only steps away from being official.
The right-back, who can also play centre-back, signed for United from Ajax in 2014 and would prefer a move back to his former club.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported a deal has been agreed between United and the Bundesliga outfit.
Fosu-Mensah was handed his first-team bow by Louis van Gaal back in 2016. After loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham, he has failed to get in the first-team fold for United regardless.
Just last week, Solskjaer confirmed that he has no issues with the player leaving after amassing just 108 minutes of football this season across all competitions.
“I’m not sure if he will stay or if he’s going to take an option now,” Solskjaer said while commenting on Fosu-Mensah’s future.
“He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs with a view to leaving now in January.”
“It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game time. He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again.”
“It might be the end of January or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for.”
Argentine duo Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo could be next in line to join Fosu-Mensah on the Red Devils’ departures list.
Both are out of contract in the summer and United would have to sell them in the current window if they have plans to get a decent fee for either player.
