The Reds pulled off a brilliant comeback to start their Europa League campaign with a victory.
Liverpool defeated LASK 3-1 in their Europa League game on Thursday. A brilliant attacking display in the second half ensured the Reds’ win against their Austrian opponents.
What happened?
LASK stunned their opponents with an early goal as Florian Flecker found the back of the net in the 14th minute. Liverpool pushed for a quick comeback into the game but failed to create enough goalscoring chances before the break.
Things changed, however, when the second half started. Liverpool quickly got back into the game through Dawin Nunez’s penalty in the 56th minute. The visitors then maintained enough pressure to complete their comeback only seven minutes later.
An assist from Ryan Gravenberch found Luis Diaz, who flicked it into the back of the net from close range. The goal forced LASK to push forward for an equalizer, but that only provided more space for Liverpool’s attacks.
Mohamed Salah then put the victory to bed for the Reds by scoring their third goal of the night in the 88th minute. The victory was Jurgen Klopp’s 50th European victory with Liverpool, more than any other manager in the club’s history.
Liverpool vs LASK: Man of the Match
Diaz made a fantastic performance on the left-hand side of Liverpool’s attacking line as they defeated LASK. The Portuguese star’s constant runs behind the Austrian side’s backline eventually led to Liverpool’s second goal of the night.
