Frank Lampard says Callum Hudson-Odoi needs to take his chance at Chelsea while remaining coy on the youngster’s future at the club.

Lampard has challenged Callum Hudson-Odoi to make good use of his chances while they are available.

The youngster is a confirmed starter for the Blues when they take on Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

It will only be the second time Hudson-Odoi has started a game for Chelsea since the 1st of February.

Injuries have stopped the youngster in his tracks as he aims to stake a claim for first-team action.

With the likes of Pulisic and Ziyech still injured, Hudson-Odoi could even get more game-time than anticipated.

Lampard has called on the youngster to prove his worth and show his ability now he’ll be called upon.

“That’s where Callum is at and that’s why I keep saying he needs to train, he needs to show in training every day and when he gets his opportunity in games, which he will have because he will play against Barnsley.” Lampard said as quoted by the Independent.

“At the moment we have Christian Pulisic injured, Hakim Ziyech injured. We played Timo Werner out wide against Liverpool.

“But the absolute natural winger who is fit at the minute is Callum.

“He has to show in every minute, on and off the ball, what he can do for the team and that’s the position Callum is in at the minute.

In the past two days, a rumor has emerged Chelsea could loan Hudson-Odoi with Bayern Munich supposedly interested.

Lampard refuses to rule out the prospect of the youngster leaving.

“I’m going to skirt around that question; it remains to be seen.”

“We’re not in a period where the transfer window or market is acting like it has done in recent years in terms of how players move or what level they move at.

“Again, the competitive games have just started. I’m very open to those conversations with the players as the next couple of weeks go on.

“My priority will always be making sure I maintain and keep the strongest squad I can for this club but after that of course, the individual conversations will happen within that.”

Hudson-Odoi will be aiming to give Lampard food for thought with an assured performance against Barnsley. Perhaps a goal or two will be on his mind at Stamford Bridge later tonight.
