The Blues striker scored his eighth goal in as many games during Monday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Former Chelsea full-back Graeme Le Saux believes Olivier Giroud’s impressive form presents Frank Lampard with a ‘conundrum’.

The 34-year-old scored Chelsea’s only goal for the second game in a row during Monday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. He headed in an opener inside 34 minutes to put the club ahead before Anwar El Ghazi’s second-half equalizer.

The header meant Giroud has now scored in each of his last eight games against Villa with 10 goals to his name overall.

But, speaking live on Amazon after the Blues’ draw, Le Saux revealed he isn’t sure Giroud fits the bill of the type of striker Lampard desires.

“It’s a bit of a conundrum for Frank because Giroud will deliver this sort of level in the box,” said Le Saux, as quoted by Daily Mail.

“He has got the most striker’s instinct for Chelsea, and he has earned a start for the next game.

“But I don’t think he’s exactly the striker they want in terms of pace and power that you would expect for a Chelsea striker.”

Giroud will hope to lead the Blues frontline again on January 3 for a Premier League match against Manchester City.
