La Liga president Javier Tebas has shared his thoughts on the possibility of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona next summer.

Javier Tebas says La Liga are prepared to see the possible departure of Lionel Messi from Barcelona.

The Argentine made it known to the public about his intention to leave the Nou Camp last summer. After series of back and forth tussles with the club, La Pulga opted to stay put at the club for another season.

Projecting what his departure could mean, some have claimed that Messi leaving Barcelona would be ‘bad news’ for La Liga.

But Tebas doesn’t share those fears and sees the above claims as falls. Having seen Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo leave Spain’s top flight in consecutive years, the La Liga president is certain they can handle one more big departure.

Manchester City have been one of the prominent sides linked to Messi and Tebas also took the chance to have a go at the ‘shady’ acts done by the Manchester club.

“We would prefer Messi to stay in La Liga but Ronaldo and Neymar left and we have not noticed any difference,” Tebas said as quoted by Goal. “We are ready.”

“It seems the only club in the Premier League that talks about registering Messi is Manchester City, who compete outside the rules.

“I am not the only one saying this.

“I am not too worried about them. I have criticised what they do so many times. Doing it one more time makes no difference.

“City is neither affected by Covid or pandemics or anything because they are financed differently and it is impossible to fight against that.”

Regardless of what Tebas might say, the reality is that the departure of a global superstar like Messi would no doubt take a toll on the La Liga, having been their best player arguably for the past decade.
