The founders of the Super League project are reportedly ready to launch a new version of the competition.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused Super League organizers of trying “to fool” the European clubs.

The project collapsed only within days of its surprise launch in April 2021. However, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus stayed committed to their plans, pushing to reconfigure and rebrand the breakaway competition.

On Thursday, Bernd Reichart confirmed the new Super League format could contain up to 80 teams in a multi-divisional format.

Reichart is the chief executive of A22, a company formed to sponsor the creation of the Super League. He also confirmed the new format would be an open competition, with teams qualifying and relegating to different divisions.

The newly announced plans triggered a response from Tebas, who has remained a vocal critic of the breakaway palns.

“The Super League is the wolf, who today disguises himself as a granny to try to fool European football,” Tebas wrote on Twitter, “but HIS nose and HIS teeth are very big.

“Four divisions in Europe? Of course the first for them, as in the 2019 reform. Government of the clubs? Of course only the big ones.”
