According to a report from The Athletic, Kylian Mbappe is asking for an insane salary increase in order to renew his contract at PSG.
We finally know what Kylian Mbappe wants in order to renew his contract as a PSG player and the supporters won’t like it. It seems that with this demand, the French youngster is basically saying he wants to leave the French club. Even though they have spent hundreds of millions signing players, PSG hasn’t crossed a line in regards to wages. Only Neymar earns the type of money that is considered over that line. With all add ons included, the Brazilian star makes around €36 million per season after tax.
According to The Athletic, Mbappe is asking to earn exactly the same as Neymar in order to renew his contract. This would be regarded as a clear message for the club owners: Mbappe wants to leave PSG next summer. As we go through the second year of a global pandemic, there are very few clubs that can pay Kylian what he wants. Even if he is the living heir to Ronaldo and Messi’s throne, this kind of money is almost an insult to the people who are suffering due to this crisis.
Who can pay Kylian Mbappe’s salary?
In The Athletic’s report, Manchester City gets automatically discarded because they would only pay that type of wage if Leo Messi comes to the club. Juventus is already paying that money to Cristiano Ronaldo and only one club remains. Florentino Perez would consider paying Kylian that money if PSG wanted to sell him. Real Madrid is the only club in the world with enough money to reach Mbappe’s salary expectations at the moment.
If you stop to think about it, this is a brilliant move from Kylian and his family. Putting PSG on the spot is one of the few ways to convince them the time has come to sell one of their best players. Unless they decide to break that salary cap in order to maintain Mbappe, of course. The upcoming few months will be crucial in Kylian Mbappe’s future. We will keep you all posted on what PSG decides and if they consider paying him what he asks is worth their while.
