The Frenchman’s new transfer saga has begun with Real Madrid being his main suitors.
Kylian Mbappe has insisted his “only option” is to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for another season.
Earlier this week, a report from L’Equipe claimed Mbappe had decided against triggering the option to extend his PSG contract until 2025.
PSG, who want to avoid a free departure next summer, are under pressure to either sign a new deal with Mbappe or sell him ahead of the next season.
Reports of Real Madrid‘s revived interest in signing Mbappe have dominated the headlines in Spain. But the World Cup winner says he is not planning to leave Parc des Princes.
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, Mbappe confirmed he sent the aforementioned letter to the PSG hierarchy.
“Honestly I did not think I was going to offend anyone. I only sent a letter,” the 24-year-old said.
“I didn’t know a letter could kill someone. It’s just a letter. I don’t care about the reactions.
“I just sent a letter but it was time ago, not during the international break. No need to explain why. I have my own reasons.”
The French striker added: “My only option now is staying at PSG, I already said that.”
PSG will most likely stay open to selling Mbappe throughout the summer transfer window. But Mbappe’s decision to run down his contract could tempt his suitors to wait for another season and sign him as a free agent.
