Mbappe’s muddled relationship with his PSG teammates has frustrated the coach.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has insisted Kylian Mbappe is “at the same level” as his teammates.
Following an extensive transfer saga, Mbappe secured his stay at PSG with a massive contract renewal in May.
The attacking trio of Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar has taken the Ligue 1 by storm since the start of the season. But reports around Mbappe’s issues with Galtier’s tactics and his “hot and cold” relationship with Neymar have only intensified in recent weeks.
“It’s wrong,” Galtier told RMC.
“He embodies the project, there can be no doubt, but when I say that he embodies the project, it is not that he is above the club.
“Kylian is at the same level as all the other players. On the same level as Leo Messi who has had an incredible career, who is the greatest player in the history of football. Kylian is on the same level as Neymar.”
Mbappe reportedly wants to give up his role as PSG’s striker to play deeper like Messi and Neymar. Such a change is unlikely as both players remain at Parc des Princes at least until the end of the season.
For now, Mbappe can play in his favourite position for France, who are preparing for the World Cup. Les Bleus will take on Australia in their tournament opener before meeting Denmark and Tunisia in their next group-stage matches.
