If he manages to score against Bayern Munich this week, Kylian Mbappe will break an all time Champions League record with PSG

Kylian Mbappe is currently in one of the best Champions League campaigns of his professional career. He is fresh out of an amazing performance at Allianz Arena in Munich with a chance to eliminate Bayern this week. Mbappe also scored four goals against FC Barcelona in the round of 16, which makes him one of the most important players of this year’s tournament. With his two goals against Bayern, Mbappe already scored eight in this campaign.

This tied the records of David Trezeguet and Wissam Ben Yedder. Both of them scored eight goals in a single season during this competition. Should Kylian Mbappe score against Bayern this week, he will surpass their record and become the only Frenchman with 9 goals in a single Champions League season. He will also get a little closer to Karim Benzema’s 70 goals in the all-time list of players who scored more in the Champions League.

Mbappe has another record to beat.

Scoring against Bayern Munich will also give Kylian Mbappe a unique opportunity in the tournament. In the Champions League history, only he was able to score in four consecutive knock-out stage games before. He did it when he was still playing at AS Monaco. Getting a goal against Manuel Neuer would tie his own record and get a chance to break it in the semifinals.

This would be yet another proof that Mbappe truly is the new heir to Messi and Ronaldo’s throne. Bayern Munich will have a rough time trying to stop the young star, especially after scoring once again in Ligue 1 last weekend. Mbappe could lead PSG to their first title in Champions League history. All he has to do is keep this pace and these results. Can he make it happen against the reigning champions?
