Reports have been circulating for almost 24 hours alleging that Kylian Mbappe could be on his way out of Paris before the end of the summer.

Kylian Mbappe has decided not to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain beyond 2024, as confirmed in a statement he released on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old striker had previously informed PSG of his decision on July 15, 2022, but the letter he sent to the club was only meant to confirm what he had already told them.

“Kylian Mbappe and his entourage confirm that this matter has not been discussed since over the course of the year, except a fortnight ago to announce the sending of the letter. No potential contract extension has been mentioned,” read Mbappe’s statement to the AFP.

“After maintaining publicly in recent weeks that he would be a PSG player next season, Kylian Mbappe has not asked to leave this summer and has just confirmed to the club that he would not be activating the extra year.”

The statement added that “his entourage regret that the letter was circulated in the media and that these exchanges were made public with the sole aim of damaging their image and the discussions with the club.”

As a result, PSG are reportedly willing to listen to offers of around €150 million for Mbappe this summer, in order to avoid losing him for free a year later. This has put Real Madrid on high alert. The Spanish giants are looking to replace Karim Benzema, who recently joined Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad.

Mbappe had previously signed a new contract with PSG until 2024, with the option of a further year, after rejecting Real Madrid’s attempts to sign him last summer.

The France captain finished last season with 41 goals and 10 assists in 43 games across all club competitions.
