West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma has apologized for a disturbing video that saw him abuse a family cat.

In a video obtained by The Sun newspaper, Zouma is seen kicking and hitting a cat across the kitchen floor. His brother, Yoan, filmed the incident and originally shared it on Snapchat.

West Ham and the RSPCA have condemned Zouma’s actions, although the Metropolitan Police have declined to investigate it.

“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video,” said Zouma. “I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behavior was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

West Ham condemn their player’s actions

The footage has sparked outrage, with many people urging West Ham to sack Zouma. The Hammers have issued a statement of their own in response to the video, promising to investigate it ‘internally’.

“West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated,” the statement read.

“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”

West Ham return to action on Tuesday evening at home to Watford in the Premier League. For match details and betting tips, check out the link here.
