Two clean sheets in a row is good, says Kurt Zouma, but it would be premature for Chelsea to assume their defensive woes have ended.
Chelsea have played out two goalless draws in their most recent fixtures against Sevilla and Manchester United. It was a welcome sight, even though the lack of goals was a disappointment.
Frank Lampard came under fire somewhat for his conservative approach at United last weekend, with Blues managing just a single shot on target. Keeping a clean sheet was the clear priority at Old Trafford.
But Zouma has warned his teammates not to fool themselves into believing their defensive issues are behind them after just two games.
“I don’t think we can talk about turning a corner, we are just trying to do our best every game,” said the Blues center-back as quoted by Football London.
“The last two games we did well to get the clean sheets, but that’s just two games. We want to keep doing that and we have to work to get clean sheets.”
Chelsea will face Krasnodar in Russia on Wednesday evening for their second Group E game in the Champions League.
“Everyone’s been training hard,” continued Zouma.
“I think we also played good opponents, but defensively we did a great job in the last two games. We did great. The communication has been better too.
“Also, I think the lads put in an effort to keep the clean sheets. Everyone is working the same way.
“We know each other better now because the new players have mixed in well. We’ve not had much time to prepare because of a short time in training and many, many games.
“We’ll get there soon hopefully. We just need to enjoy ourselves.”
