Ronald Koeman’s agent has responded to Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s suggestion the Dutchman suffered an anxiety attack.

Joan Laporta’s claim that Ronald Koeman had an ‘episode’ this week has been angrily denied by the Barcelona manager’s agent.

The Blaugrana president suggested in a press conference on Friday that Koeman suffered an anxiety attack earlier in the week.

“He had an episode that meant he had to go to the hospital, but he’s well. I called him,” Laporta said.

But Koeman’s agent, Rob Jansen, has branded the comments as ‘total nonsense’ and insisted the Dutchman only had a routine check-up on his health after suffering a heart attack in May 2020.

“It’s total nonsense,” he told Algemeen Dagblad. “A president is not allowed to say things like this at all, that is a violation of privacy.

“Ronald only had his blood pressure measured. He has had a cardiac catheterization and is therefore checked now and then. That’s all it is.”

Koeman took to Twitter on Friday evening to deny these claims and urged his followers to not ‘believe anything you hear.’

“Don’t believe anything you hear. I am healthy, that’s all that matters in life!” he tweeted.

Laporta, meanwhile, revealed contract talks with Barcelona captain Lionel Messi are ‘going well’.
