Ahead of the Spanish El Clasico, Ronald Koeman hinted he will give Antoine Griezmann more chances to prove his worth at the club.
Antoine Griezmann is not going through the best moment of his career at club level under Ronald Koeman. The French forward has been struggling to find his best form due to the position he plays with the Dutch manager. Lionel Messi’s presence on the team completely limits Griezmann’s true capabilities and prevents him from showing his true form.
This has given Koeman more room to use some of the younger players who are looking for new opportunities. Just last week in the Champions League, the gaffer left Antoine on the bench in order to give more minutes to players like Trincao, Pedri, and Ousmane Dembele.
But now that El Clasico is right around the corner, the manager made the decision to give Griezmann another chance to shine. The biggest stage possible is waiting for him to deliver some good results, but we are all wondering if this will happen.
Koeman still trusts Griezmann.
Not using Antoine during the previous Champions League match against Ferencvaros didn’t mean he wasn’t going to keep having minutes. Ronald Koeman isn’t stupid, he knows he needs all his players fully feet in order to compete for titles this season. During today’s press conference ahead of El Clasico against Real Madrid, he hinted at Griezmann’s role.
“Griezmann has options to play this match,” said Koeman on Sport. “It’s not great talking about his function on every game. Because there are more players and the squad is more important. We must plan everything on a tactical level and we choose the best players in order to get the best result.
“The most important thing here is every player’s level of performance. I don’t see a problem with having young people. They need those matches in order to get the proper experience. I’m only thinking about the best possible squad for tomorrow, it doesn’t depend on any player’s age.”
