Despite the club’s economy, Ronald Koeman still thinks that FC Barcelona is in dire need of a position during the winter transfer window.
FC Barcelona cannot escape a reality that Ronald Koeman also knows, they need a striker as soon as humanly possible. Although Antoine Griezmann is supposed to play in that position, the Frenchman is hardly the type of player who can secure a certain number of goals per season.
Lionel Messi is no longer the player who secured 50 in a single season, and Ansu Fati is still too young to get such a big responsibility. Koeman has a deadset idea to sign a forward who can help the squad in that department. However, his ideas are not in line with the club’s current economy.
FC Barcelona doesn’t have the resources to buy any player, they are having problems keeping the ones they have. In fact, salaries need to get sorted in two days or the club will have to declare bankruptcy. This whole situation leaves Koeman with little to no options, but he is resilient in his requests.
Koeman will insist on Memphis Depay.
Even though he is not a number ‘9’, Memphis Depay is the player Ronald Koeman wants for the club. The Olympique Lyon player is a winger but he can play anywhere on the pitch, and the Dutch coach knows how to use him. During their time together with the Netherlands national team, Memphis played all over the front.
When asked about the club’s transfer needs for the winter, Koeman revealed the following on Sport: “Everybody knows my position in that sense. I’ve said many times that we need a number ‘9’. But we mostly need to see how the club’s economy will be during January. I can’t force them to do anything.
“My decision was to come to the club knowing how the economy is. If we can’t sign any player, then we won’t. We are going to work with what we have, this is how things are at the moment.”
