Ronald Koeman was not happy after FC Barcelona’s defeat against Real Madrid during El Clasico, he exploded against VAR.

Ronald Koeman is convinced VAR has been a real problem for FC Barcelona over the last two months. The penalty decision after Clement Lenglet’s foul on Sergio Ramos was not clear at first glance but the replay gave everybody a better perspective. It is obvious that FC Barcelona would try to dispute the claim after the match because they hate losing.

However, Ronald Koeman took things one step further by lashing out directly against La Liga officials and the usage of VAR. The Dutch manager is convinced that everybody is being unfair against his squad and no calls are being made in their favor.

“The plan was to have control over the game,” said Koeman on Diario AS. “We changed Leo’s position and we tried to get more depth with players on the wings who could control the ball from that position. I believe we had a good performance.

“That wasn’t a penalty for me. I’ve said that I wish they are able to someday explain VAR to me. It was only used against Barça. They didn’t use it on the penalty against Messi, nor in the red cards of the penalty. My question is: why is there only VAR against Barça?”

A suspension could come for Koeman.

It wouldn’t be the first time La Liga comes after a manager for complaining against VAR. They already tried to work something out against Manuel Pellegrini when he complained after the Real Madrid vs Real Betis match. There’s a general feeling amongst the rest of the clubs in the tournament of La Liga favoring Los Blancos.

Although this penalty against Ramos was correct, it’s also true that complaints against them for VAR have become the norm. FC Barcelona needs to focus on the upcoming Champions League match against Juventus after losing this match. They can’t get distracted by all the noise.
