Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp can’t explain why Mo Salah sometimes doesn’t receive well-deserved praise for his performances.

It’s 2019 and Liverpool are well on their way to the Reds’ first Champions League title since 2005. A crowded Anfield sings from the top of their lungs: “Mo Salah, Egyptian king.” It feels like this scenario happened ages ago. In fact, we can barely remember the last time we saw packed stadiums in any major competition.

Unfortunately, the thousands of cheering supporters have been replaced for thousands of social media trolls and critics. Nowadays, it’s a lot easier to find a negative review than an actual compliment on any player’s social media pages.

Although Mohamed Salah has scored an impressive 17 goals in 23 matches for Liverpool this season, the player hasn’t received much praise from either fans or the media. The reason why, however, is something that Jurgen Klopp truly hasn’t been able to figure out.

“If he doesn’t get the credit I don’t know because it would be really strange and would be really unexplainable. Why shouldn’t he get the credit? He gets the credit here internally for sure, for all these things,” Klopp assured. “He played an outstanding game against Leipzig, and not only because he scored but also in all of the other parts.

“Actually, my favorite moment in the game, especially a knockout game, but I would say it’s one of my favorites in general, was when he won the heading challenge in our own box like after 87 minutes or something. When Angelino was in his back and wanted to volley the ball in.

“So yes, he played an outstanding game and he gets all the respect from us. If you don’t give him the right amount of respect you have to ask yourself why that’s the case. But the numbers and the performances cannot be the reason.”
