Jurgen Klopp provides a brief assessment of the teams – Ajax, Midtjylland, & Atalanta – Liverpool are drawn alongside in Group D.
Liverpool had a rather unsatisfactory previous Champions League campaign by their lofty standards as they were forced to exit the competition at Round of 16 stage.
They will now strive to repeat their feat of the 2018/19 season and redeem their reputation as the kings of Europe in this season.
Having won the Premier League title last term, they were placed in pot 1 for the Champions League group stage draw.
Qualification to the next round is expected but certainly not guaranteed for the Reds, having been drawn alongside Ajax, Atalanta, and Midtjylland in Group D.
Ajax are a renowned team in Europe’s elite club competition, having enjoyed a run to the last four in 2018/19. Atalanta also established their dominance by reaching the semi-finals last season. Midtjylland, meanwhile, who are making their first appearance in the competition, will aim to cause some upsets.
“Everybody knows how good Ajax was two years ago and they will always build a proper new squad and a proper team,” Jurgen Klopp told LFCTV.
“Midtjylland is for different reasons…one of the most interesting teams because they have quite a specific way.
“Atalanta is obviously a really exciting project since a couple of years. They play pretty good stuff as well so for me it looks like it’s a proper football group.”
