During a recent interview with Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp opened up about the main reasons Liverpool won’t be able to fight for the title.

Even though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool started off the season well, everything started crumbling down early in the campaign. It all started with Virgil van Dijk’s injury against Everton during the Merseyside Derby. However, things got increasingly more complicated as the season progressed. Injuries started becoming the norm with several players going to the infirmary due to the lack of resting time for any of them.

One could use any excuse but Jurgen Klopp repeatedly said he didn’t want to do that. Now that the Reds aren’t technically fighting to win the Premier League, he can feel free to talk about the failed season they had so far. Klopp spoke to Sky Sports about the many reasons the Reds weren’t able to keep up with the opposition. Naturally, injuries were a major subject for Liverpool’s lack of good results.

Klopp hopes things can improve soon.

“Before the season, yes, we knew we were good,” Klopp tells Sky Sports. “That did not mean we were going to win it, but it just increases your responsibility to achieve something. We are still a good team but a lot of things have happened this season and if you want to win the league in England you have to play a nearly perfect season. You can see that now with City. They did not start perfectly but they obviously now are in a mood where it looks like perfection.

“Results-wise, one hundred percent. Performance-wise, not far away. That is the season you have to play to become champions in England. We started the season pretty well, We were, for a long time, on top or around the top of the table, scoring goals. The problems that we had, it was always clear that they would become influential if we could not sort it by the players coming back. That is what happened.”
