Seeking defensive reinforcement, the defending champions face a race against time with the transfer window closing on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will try to sign a center-back before the conclusion of the January transfer window.

Any incoming transfer activity in the winter market initially looked unlikely for Liverpool, but it appears there has been a late change in plans.

The change in plans is influenced by the fact that Klopp has no senior center-back available for selection at present with Fabinho, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, and Joe Gomez all on the sidelines.

Sergio Ramos, David Alaba, and Shkodran Mustafi are some of the names that have come up with those at Anfield looking to take a late dip in the transfer market to deal with the injury crisis.

“We will try,” Klopp responded when enquired about a potential new signing, via Goal.

“It is funny when you all think: ‘Oh Liverpool will be just fine with the situation and they don’t care or try.’ We try but there is nothing to say until something happens.

“We will see. We still try to do the right things. If that’s possible, we will do it. If not, we won’t.”
