Jurgen Klopp is refusing to talk much on rumors claiming Georginio Wijnaldum could be headed to Barcelona this summer.
Jurgen Klopp believes all is ‘well and fine’ despite rumors surrounding Wijnaldum.
Over the past few days, Spanish media have claimed the Dutchman is a target for Barcelona this summer.
Newly appointed boss Ronald Koeman is well familiar with Wijnaldum having coached him as Netherlands boss.
The 57-year-old is hoping to use those ties to convince the Liverpool man to switch to Camp Nou.
Wijnaldum has become a key member of Klopp’s squad in recent seasons. He played all but one of Liverpool’s 38 games last season on the road to their title triumph.
The 29-year-old is now in the final year of his contract at Anfield and there are thoughts he could consider a new challenge elsewhere.
Jurgen Klopp was asked to share his thoughts on the matter but chose to remain coy on it all.
“That’s an open contract situation, otherwise we would know,” Klopp said as quoted by Goal when asked about Wijnaldum.
“It’s all between us and the player, these kind of things. It’s all good at the moment, all fine. Gini played very well in pre-season and has obviously had a couple of good seasons for us. That’s all I can say about that.”
Wijnaldum joined the Reds for their pre-season tour in Austria and is in line to start against Arsenal in the Community Shield tomorrow.
