Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed his thoughts after watching his side drop points against Newcastle in their last game of 2020.
Jurgen Klopp says he was not that frustrated despite seeing his side fail to build on their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
A 0-0 draw still saw the Reds lead the way with three points but second-placed Manchester United have a game in hand.
Klopp watched on in frustration as his side created all the chances and dominated play for most of the evening. However, a defiant Karl Darlow proved to be the difference and made a couple of impressive saves to keep his side in the game.
It was the first time this fixture has ended goalless since 1974 but the Reds’ boss was at least ‘pleased’ with his side’s performance.
Klopp was quoted via the club’s website: “I’m not happy about the result but the game is already played.”
“I’m not overly frustrated or something like that – it’s football, if you don’t use your chances then it’s difficult to win a game.”
“But you can have a draw with a bad performance or you can have a draw with a good performance, and tonight we had a draw with a good performance. We just didn’t use the chances and that’s why I’m OK with the game. That’s it.”
Mohamed Salah missed a few clear-cut chances but Klopp refused to blame any player for his side’s failure to score.
“If you keep creating, you will score. I know we will score again, that’s how it is. It’s not a problem in the moment.”
“We needed to show a reaction from the second half against West Brom because we lost the plot a little bit there, it looked in that second half like we were 1-0 down and not 1-0 up.”
Klopp and Liverpool will take on Southampton next Monday in what would be their first game of 2021.
