The Liverpool boss has delivered an update on his injured star center-back ahead of the Champions League match against Ajax.
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Virgil van Dijk is recovering well from surgery on his knee injury, despite conceding it ‘doesn’t look good’ at the moment.
A challenge from Jordan Pickford in a 2-2 derby draw against Everton back in October has kept Van Dijk sidelined ever since. There are even fears he may miss the rest of Liverpool’s current campaign.
The Dutchman’s absence in the Reds backline has led to widespread speculation that Klopp may seek a new center-back in January to compensate for his loss, especially as Joe Gomez is also out with a long-term injury.
Virgil van Dijk is bang on track with his rehab. Nothing concerning in that update from the manager. Would be very odd if his knee looked fine so soon after undergoing surgery. Long road ahead but the Dutchman is doing well. #LFC https://t.co/e6xVkbbc6r

“Considering the circumstances, he’s doing really well,” said Klopp on Van Dijk’s recovery as quoted on the Evening Standard.
“His knee doesn’t look good, to be honest. It doesn’t look like a knee should look, but it looks good for a knee with that surgery and the time he had since the surgery.
“So, yes, of course we are in contact and he’s doing well, that’s true.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, and Xherdan Shaqiri have joined Van Dijk on the treatment table ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League game against Ajax.
Although Klopp revealed Naby Keita has an outside chance of making a return, but Nathaniel Phillips is ineligible.
