The financial crisis brought down by the coronavirus pandemic is making it hard for Liverpool to sign players, recapitulates Jurgen Klopp.
A few months back, Liverpool appeared to be the most likely destination for Timo Werner, who had been enjoying a remarkable season with RB Leipzig.
Werner was considered an ideal target for Jurgen Klopp’s team as his versatility would make him a good back-up to all of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.
However, the lack of translation of interest into activity from them saw Werner end up joining Chelsea.
Thiago Alcantara is another player who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield. And it appears that the Reds have not yet learned from their mistakes as, according to rumors, they are haggling on Bayern Munich’s asking price for him.
Liverpool have so far completed just one signing as they head into the 2020/21 season with the aim of defending their Premier League crown.
In an interview with Servus TV [via Daily Mail], Klopp was asked to comment on a potential move for Thiago.
“Now, in corona times, you have to think five times before making a transfer because nobody knows what will happen after corona,” the German replied.
“We always have to pay attention to the financial aspect. Because we don’t know exactly how much money we will have available. Others seem to deal with it a little more positively, when you look at Chelsea.
“But I am very happy with my team right now. If something transfer related will happen we have to see.”
